NORTH WALES COAST etc.
CREWE - CHESTER - BANGOR - HOLYHEAD
OCTOBER 2002
- PART TWO

Part 1

Part 3

47 haulage returns to the coast as 47840 "North Star" leaves Crewe with the 8.40 Virgin, London-Holyhead service. Black & White because I arrived at the last minute and had forgotten to reset the camera. 24/10/2002

Parked on the diesel depot was recently repainted and renamed 47747 "Florence Nightingale" - the sun was in the wrong place! 24/10/2002

Just then the Royal Train went through hauled by 47798 "Prince William"........

....and then 5972 "Olton Hall" arrived for a drink while en route from Carnforth to Tyseley with an ecs working. Just another ordinary day at Crewe Station! Click the picture for more of 5972. 24/10/2002

Saturday 19th October and the Duchess returns to the North Wales Coast. Deputising for the failed A4 pacific number 60009, 6233 took the Cardiff-Holyhead special onward from Crewe. Taken from Rhos, this distant shot shows the LMS pacific passing Llisfaen.

Closer now and approaching Colwyn Bay station, again taken from Rhos.

The train paused at Llandudno Junction to take water which gave me time to get to my favourite spot near to Conwy Castle. Everything was perfect, bright sunshine and plenty of warning when the locomotive would exit the tunnel mouth, nothing could go wrong. It did, my love/hate relationship with digital photography came in to play and at the wrong moment the camera decided to do a full focus scan. By the time the shutter moved the engine's smokebox had disappeared! Ah well......
