JANUARY 2003
- PART ONE

January 2

A very happy and peaceful New Year to everyone who visits this site and appreciative thanks to all those who e-mailed me over the Christmas break with so many kind comments. RAIL37 can now also be accessed at

 www.rail37.com

The Sandbach-Arpley acid train still tends to produce a 37 and today it was 37695 storming through the station heading North. 10/1/2003

A nice sunny lineup of 37's on Crewe Diesel Depot yard. 37521(L) with engine running, 37520, 37899, 37798 in Mainline livery and 37890. 10/1/2003

In FGW livery was 47830(L) with 47785 "Fiona Castle" (for the chop?) and 47778 "Duke of Edinburgh's Award". 10/1/2003

A surprise arrival was 47838 (formerly "Pride of Saltley") now painted in Riviera Trains' Oxford Blue. The loco arrived off the Stoke line and ran onto the depot. Guess who was on the wrong side of the station at the time! Telephoto shots only. 10/1/2003

839 paused for permission to enter the headshunt before reversing into the depot yard where it was severely photographed! Watch the magazines for some of them. 10/1/2003

66561 is, I believe, one of the new batch of 66's recently arrived in the UK. 10/1/2003

While travelling home from Stoke-on-Trent I noticed 47704 parked up at Junction 16 of the M6 so stopped to take a few shots. 7/1/2003

As with most of these movements, the locomotives was in a sorry state and probably due for stripping and cutting. 7/1/2003

My first visit to Crewe in 2003 and brilliant sunshine makes it difficult to shoot South. This view of the depot yard shows (L to R) 47811(?) in FGW livery, 47727 "Castel Caerffilli/Caerphilly Castle", an unidentified RES 47 and 37503. 6/1/2003

Unusually there was an 08 shunter in the yard, 08561, which left soon after this was taken, presumably for Crewe Works. 47828 was padding about the yard. 6/1/2003

At least the sunshine allowed some bright shots instead of the hazy grey ones taken prior to Christmas. This is 43091 leading 43121 with the morning Holyhead-London. 6/1/2003

60003 "Freight Transport Association" lit up(!) and ran into the yard. 6/1/2003

66069 must have had a bad night because it appeared without a coat! 6/1/2003

"Thunderbird" 57304 "Gordon Tracy" arrived to run through platform 1 onto the Stoke line and return later to park in bay platform 2. It later ran off towards Stoke again. 6/1/2003

47746 "The Bobby" had deposited its empty stock from the morning Bangor-Manchester run and was returning to the diesel depot via bay platform 8. 6/1/2003
