  CREWE - CHESTER - BANGOR - HOLYHEAD
CREWE DUCHESS
10th MAY 2008

57601 was parked, or so I thought, in bay platform 8, waiting for the return of The Fylde Coast Express from Blackpool. The diesel was to take the train back to Sheffield.

Running a couple of minutes early, the train duly arrived at Crewe having been held at the Coal Yard. Unexpectedly it turned into platform 11 catching out many photographers.

After unhooking the Coronation Pacific moved away to turn on the Basford Hall triangle.

It's sad to think that this will be the last year this locomotive is in service.

As the Duchess headed for the Heritage Centre the setting sun was catching it side on.

57601 had reversed onto the train and, after a short wait for a path, took it out at a pace.

Tacked on the rear end was 47826.

826 was, of course, a regular performer on the Coast in its InterCity guise and carrying the name "Springburn".
