CHESTER, JULY 21st 2019
Chester station and, for the County town, it's buildings look pretty rough.
As a Cestrian, born and bred, I find it sad that this is the impression of Cheshire that travellers get when passing through.
There were Hippos galore with, at one point, five in the station and two on shed.
TFW livery.
Jubilee class 45590 "Leander", approaching platform 4 with The North Wales Coast Express, running Liverpool - Holyhead.
It's virtually impossible to photograph stock at Chester without including lamp posts so I've removed some!.
Departure, with very little steam apparent but it did seem easy for the "Jub".
Red Hippo 175107 can just be seen beside the maintenance depot with 114 inside.
I travelled back to Crewe on a London-bound Virgin Voyager and it was packed to the roof, even the vestibules were full of people and luggage with some sat on the floor. There were announcements advising people without seat reservations to get off at Crewe and await another service. It's a Summer weekend for goodness sake, why does this happen. Mr Branson wants to introduce a reservation-only system but really, how would that have helped this situation when the same number of people would want to travel, except for preventing them from travelling at all?
We don't want it, we want more seats!
I was surprised to see 323223 parked in platform 3 and I notice that these trains have been debranded.
SANDBACH, JULY 20th 2019
57314 with an ecs working, running Carnforth-Crewe, in preparation for Sunday's North Wales Coast Express.
I assume this working is diverted due to the closure of the WCML.
On the rear was 57316.
NANTWICH, JULY 20th 2019
Nantwich and 175116 heads North with a Cardiff Central - Manchester Piccadilly service.
07.31 Manchester Piccadilly- Carmarthen service.
70000, "Britannia" passing through with The Welsh Marches Express running Crewe - Cardiff and return.
D1944 "Craftsman" was on the rear.
